I started the water feud with Emily by squirting the tiniest amount of water in
her face (as that’s what you do when you’re trying to cheer someone up).
Somehow it escalated into a full-blown water fight that lasted for two days. I
did not come out of it as winner and our kitchen floors were soaking wet by the
end of it. What can I say, I guess that’s just how we roll here in Nyika.
Last night was a bit of an odd one. You remember the dead goat I told you
about? Well it was time to cut it off the tree and give the hyenas a chance to
feast on it. We parked our car, so that everyone would have a great view of the
dinner party, pulled out the popcorn and started patiently waiting for the
hyenas to come. Turns out that the hyenas didn’t get the memo as we were
staring at a dead goat for 3 hours with no carnivores in sight. In our
desperation we even tried imitating the cries of dying animals and whooped
excited hyena calls, but our efforts were clearly not convincing enough.
Once at home, it was clear that we will be without power again. I cooked up a
storm in the candlelight, which was very romantic. I feel like I should turn
the lights off more often. Showers and dinners with no other light source than
a candlelight can create a whole new atmosphere and create magic within.
Definitely giving it a go in Melbourne. Saving on utility bills and spicing up
the love life, win-win?
Tonight we’re having a bonfire party. My special delivery, vegan sausages, will
be delivered and devoured with fresh bread buns, onions and tomatoes. Girls
have also made a (non-vegan) cake, so I will be treating myself with biscuits
and jam. Probably going to have a glass of something a bit stronger too, in the
light of celebrations of my last days here.
On a side note, it is clear that I suck at doing head stands. I have been
practicing the whole day and I still look like a crooked chicken. New goal- a
perfect head stand by Jan’18. I have many witnesses now, so… Watch this space.
